Why I do it

It is working with my hands, finding a form and breathing life into it….

I am a ceramic artist using traditional sculpting techniques, sometimes paired with unconventional materials.

The integration or addition of found objects, like wood and metal, into my work gives them a new purpose and meaning and breathing new life into something discarded.

The fascination of the varied surface colouring through saggar-firing is my inspiration for continued experimentation with this process.

Some of my pieces are wearable, inspired by found clay pipes and combined with wire and oxidised Sterling silver.

I hand-build mainly with porcelain clay, which is saggar-fired in a Raku kiln, after initial bisque firing. This firing technique often achieves unexpected effects which open up new ways at looking at the object.
